Ihlara Valley holds over 100 rock-cut Byzantine churches hidden in its towering cliffs. About 14 of these churches are currently open to visitors. The main trail follows the river and stays mostly flat.

This village marks the midway point of the canyon hike. Local restaurants place seating directly over the Melendiz River. Guided tours usually stop here to eat lunch in the wooden cabanas.

You need to make a brief climb from the canyon floor to reach this church. The walls display unique apocalyptic art. The striking frescoes depict sinners trapped by snake-like monsters in the underworld.

This colossal rock-cut religious complex sits at the northern end of the valley. You can explore cathedral-sized spaces and ancient kitchens across multiple levels. The upper sections provide wide panoramic views of the canyon.
